Swedish ceramist and designer Stig Lindberg (1916–1982) remains one of
the most iconic figures in 20th-century Scandinavian design. His numerous
creations continue to be cherished by design enthusiasts around the world.
Lindberg joined the Swedish porcelain manufacturer Gustavsberg in 1937
as a designer. Driven by a pursuit of functionality, harmony, and beauty,
he challenged conventional methods of expression with his original and
innovative ideas. Many of his designs, became signature products of the
company, remain beloved more than 40 years after his passing. became signature

This comprehensive exhibition will showcase approximately 300 works spanning
from the late 1930s—when Lindberg first began his design career until the
early 1980`s, during 6 decades! The display includes a wide variety of
pieces, such as tableware (plates, dishes), his popular faience (tin-glazed
pottery), studio-made stoneware including unique one-of-a-kind pieces,
textile prints, original sketches, and personal works that he kept until
the end of his life. All pieces origin from the Stig Lindberg estate and
family collections.
As interest in modern Scandinavian design continues to grow, this exhibition offers an opportunity to rediscover Stig Lindberg not only as a leading designer of the 20th century, but also as a pioneering artist whose breadth of creativity and vision will be newly introduced to Japanese audiences—some aspects for the very first time.
